3/26/11 - SN members submit Comp Plan action items to Land Use and Transportation working group:
1. Create new neighborhood center category appropriate for suburban transit corridors, and revisit Preferred Growth Scenario.
2. Define minimum public space and other standards for centers.
3. Document triggers (preconditions) that must be met before future land use changes are made for areas with known issues. Example - circulation plan.
4. Document underlying principles for where higher and lower density are appropriate, i.e. as determined by quality of and proximity to transit; proximity to, value and number of destinations.
3/8/11 - City Council approves SN-requested change to Comp Plan Framework language, calling for kid-friendly outdoor space and community-gathering spaces as elements of family-friendly development. Council members Morrison and Riley sponsored.
11/10/10 - Parks Department backtracks on SN request to clarify need for pocket parks in support of VMU, as part of the Parks Dept. Long Range Plan. The document contains language explaining need for pocket parks near the center of TOD districts. SN argues that the same standards apply to VMU for the same reason.
7/27/10 - Planning Commission approves SN-requested change to Comp Plan vision statement, calling for family-friendly development.
4/29/09 - Parks Department confirms it will make updates to Long Range Plan stating need for pocket parks near VMU and other higher-density areas.
3/11/08 to 1/24/09 - Wooten, North Shoal Creek, Crestview, Allandale, Highland neighborhood associations pass motions supporting minimum standards for public space in mixed use districts.
